See The ART, Meet The Artists ☆ 展示会へようこそ

The show is now up and running until March 27th in the I-Pal plaza on the first floor of I-Pal. (See map below) If you haven't stopped by yet, you only have a week left! There is art by 15 artists on display and there is a wide range of art including, photography, haiku, illustration, paper craft and more!

A closing reception will be held on March 27th from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm. Light refreshments including homemade salsa and hummus will be served. It will also be a great chance to mingle with the artists.

We'll be waiting for you!

高松市のI-Palのアイパルプラザで３月２７日まで、展示会が開かれています。（下の地図を参照）まだ観に行ってないなら、急ぎましょう！後一週間しかないので。写真や俳句、イラスト、ペーパークラフトなどの色々な作品が１５人のアーテストに展示されています。

そして、最終日の２７日に13:00時～15:00時まで終了レセプションがあります。サルサやハムス（ひよこ豆のディップ)などの色々なおやつとお茶も準備しています。アーティストと交流ためのいいチャンスです。

I'm co-organizing a group exhibition of international artists living in (or with ties to) Kagawa　Prefecture in Japan. We're still looking for participants, not to mention loads of people to come and see the art in I-Pal from March 16 - March 27. There will be a closing reception on March 27 from 1 - 3pm and it will be a great chance to meet and interact with the artists. Hope to see you there.

今香川県に住んでいる外国人（または香川につながりがある外国人）のアーティストが作った芸術作品の展示会を計画しています。まだ参加者募集中ですが、参加しなくても、3月16～27日にI-Pal香川で展示会を観れるので、是非来てください。3月27日に13：00時から15:00時まで終了レセプションが行われます。このレセプションはアーティストに会うことが出来ますし、交流するためのいい機会です。お待ちしています。

Rock'n'roll Karaoke? ★ ロックンロール教室？

I'll be holding an international understanding course at I-Pal this Friday, March 5, 2010. That's really just a fancy way of saying I'm going to bring my guitar and we're going to have a sing along with some great songs. Some friends will also bring ukuleles and guitars so it should be a good time. I was originally planning to play some Radiohead and Jack Johnson, but there were some requests to　hear well know songs so the tentative list is...

今週金曜日に国際理解講座を行います。簡単に説明すると、僕がギターを弾いて、皆と一緒に歌いながら、カラオケみたいな従業をします。友達もウクレレとギターを持ってくる予定があります！楽しい従業ができたら、嬉しいです。元の予定でRadioheadとJack　Joｈnsonを弾くつもりでしたが、皆が知っている曲を弾いたら、もっと盛り上がると思って、ちょっと予定を変えました。

Stars and circles

While I was back in the US for a couple weeks, I bought a lot of new lighting equipment. I'm most excited about the Alien Bees ring light ABR400 and all the fun shaped catch lights you can make. I haven't had a lot of time to experiment, but what I have shot so far is fun.

アメリカに2週間半帰国したときに、いっぱい新しいライティングの設備を買ってかえった。一番楽しんでるんはAlien　Beesのリングライトとそれの色々なキャッチライトのためのカバー。まだ十分実験してないけど、今まで撮った写真はめちゃ楽しい！

Photo Class at IPAL 2.17.2010

I'll be showing a slide show and giving a talk about my photography (in Japanese) at IPAL Kagawa in Takamatsu on Feb. 17, 6:30pm ~ 8pm. During the presentation I will discuss some various photo techniques including long exposures and camera panning, as well as composition points. It's only 500 yen, but space is very limited so please call IPAL and sign up ASAP if you're interested. Hope to see you there and don't forget to bring your camera (a camera with m-mode is best). If you have a tripod, bring it along as well.

2月17日に（18：30～20：00）、高松市にあるIPAL香川で自分の写真について、スライドショーと発表をする。今回の講座は日本語で行う。発表ではカメラの技法（スローシャッター、パンニング:語源は「パノラマ」)や写真の構図などの色々なポイントについて話したい思う。500円しかかからないけど、30人の定員のせいで、すぐいっぱいになる気がする。興味があったら、IPAL香川で申し込んでください。講座で会うんを楽しみにしてる。カメラを忘れないで！（ｍ－モードのカメラの方がいいけど、どんなカメラでもいい）。三脚もあれば、持ってきてもいい。

あったかい自家製の手作り作品を集めたグループ展です。

世の中の多くのひとは、アーティストと自覚しているひとが作る何か特別な作品を
アートだと考えます。しかし、価値というのはそれを見い出すひとによって
千差万別です。どんなに有名なアーティストの作品でも、それを知らない人にとっては
ただの紙くずかもしれません。逆に、どんな無名なひとが作ったものでもそこに
何らかの価値を見い出すのであれば、それは誰が何と言おうと立派なアートなのでは
ないでしょうか？
また、自分でもの作りしている自覚がなくても、日々の生活を豊かにするため工夫して
いることというのは何かしらあるはずです。それは例えば料理であったり、服の着こなし
であったり、アクセサリーであったり…なかには自分の部屋を飾るために描いた絵や
家族の記録として残した写真、自分のお家に合わせて日曜大工した家具、
子供のために縫った服や恋人のために編んだ服、誰かに送った手書きの手紙や
花瓶に活けた庭の花…などなど。
よくよく考えてみれば、ぼくらの日常はアートで溢れています。

「ホームメイド展」で集めたいのは、そんな自家製（＝ホームメイド）のものたちです。

＊２月２１日（日）にちょっとしたライブイベントを行います。誰でも気軽に飛び入り参加できる、まさにアットホームな空間になればいいなと思います。お誘い合わせのうえご来場ください。（入場無料）

Happy New Year!

I've spent the last 2 weeks visiting friends and family back in Oregon. I haven't been home in a few years so there's been lots of catching up to do.

Last night on the way home from Eugene, my brother's car transmission died an left me stranded in Junction City with my camera and a full moon. Waiting for assistance gave me a good opportunity to take some night shots.

I hope everyone has a great 2010.

２週間前久しぶりに出身のオレゴン州に家族と友達に会いに戻った。３年ぐらいで帰ってないから、旧友と親交を温めるのはいっぱい。

昨晩、ユージーン市から実家に戻っている途中、弟が貸してくれた車の伝動が壊れて、ジャンクション・シーティ町（人口4700）で足を奪われてしまった。満月でカメラを持っていたから、助けを待つのは夜の写真を撮るいい機会だった。

みなさん、２０１０年明けましておめでとう！
